2017/08/17 Source

After 6 days in the number 2 spot since its debut on August 9, police comedy film "Midnight Runners" slides down to number 3, according to the Korean Film Council's KOBIS database.  It may return one day, but for now, it was forced downward by Hollywood's "War for the Planet of the Apes" on its debut in Korean box office. Meanwhile Song Kang-ho starrer, "A Taxi Driver" remains strong in the top spot as it enters its third week. It crossed 8 million admissions on Monday to become 2017's top release in South Korea.

On Tuesday, Korea's Liberation Day, the number of screens showing "Midnight Runners" was reduced to 877 across the country, from 1,019 Monday. As as result, the total number of screenings went down from  5,345 to 3,925. Despite these, film entertained 407,702 moviegoers, bringing in the total number of audience to 2,728,131. Looks like 3 million viewers is not far away!

"Midnight Runners" stars Kang Ha-neul and Park Seo-joon as police academy students who investigate an abduction case that they witnessed.  The movie has been attracting audience with its youthful energy, comedic scenes and remarkable chemistry between the leads. The movie also stars veteran Sung Dong-il as a respected police academy instructor.
