Ministry of Labor Investigates "A Korean Odyssey" and Production Halts

tvN drama "A Korean Odyssey", also known as "Hwayugi", may have to stop all production. The Ministry of Labor investigated the drama set on the 28th and according to the results, the drama may have to either stop all operations or reinforce the set before continuing with production.

According to "A Korean Odyssey" sources, the Ministry of Labor investigated the safey of the set in regards to industrial accidents because a staff member fell about 3 meters, or 9.8 feet, while working on a chandelier on the ceiling, which resulted in paralysis in the lower half of his body.

Investigations took place mainly where the accident occured, on a ceiling joist that had broken. The staff member was standing on plywood too hang up the chandelier when the ceiling joist broke and caused the 3 meter fall. The injured staff member's representative claimed that this accident happened because cheap materials were used for cost reduction purposes.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Act Article 26, an employer must stop work when there is imminent danger of an industrial accident and only recommence after taking health and safety measures. The Minister of Employment and Labor may, in the event of a major disaster, conduct a safety and health check or other necessary measures to establish the cause of an accident or enact preventive measures.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor can immediately issue an order to suspend work in order to conduct emergency surveys and to take measures to reinforce workplaces where worker safety is not guaranteed.

If the labor supervisor sees the set unfit, all production of "A Korean Odyssey" may come to a halt or recommence after reinforcement measures have been taken. Either way, "A Korean Odyssey" will have to wait on the results of the investigation.

"A Korean Odyssey" broadcasted two episodes and during the second episode, there was a broadcasting accident with the computer graphics.
