MK Pictures to launch distribution arm

MK Pictures, one of Korea's leading production companies that was formed from the merger of KangJeGyu Films, Myung Film and manufacturing company Buffalo Seshin in 2004, has announced that it will open a distribution arm.

Beginning with Romantic Comedy When Romance Meets Destiny on November 23, the company plans to release a total of 10 films in 2006 and 12 in 2007, including both Korean and imported titles. The company is in the process of securing a $23m film investment fund that will be used to produce up to six titles of its own per year, and it will also distribute titles from other companies.

MK Pictures also operates an international sales arm which is active in promoting and selling Korean films to foreign territories.

To date this year, MK Pictures has produced the films Wet Dreams 2, The President's Last Bang, and Little Brother, and upcoming titles include When Romance Meets Destiny, comedy Bewitching Attraction, and action noir Bloody Tie.
