Moon Voted Person of the Year in Straw Poll

President Moon Jae-in has been voted Person of the Year in a straw poll by pollster Realmeter, it said Thursday.

Moon scored 25 percent of 501 respondents. Next came Park Hang-seo, the coach of the Vietnamese national football team, with 16.7 percent, and superstar boy band BTS and trauma surgeon Lee Cook-jong with 9.9 percent each.

U.S. President Donald Trump followed with 5.6 percent, not far ahead of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who was in eighth place with 4.5 percent.

But a separate poll of 1,003 people across Korea on Monday and Wednesday put Moon's approval rating at 43.8 percent, down 3.3 percentage points from last week, while his negative rating was 51.6 percent, up 5.5 percentage points and the first time it surpassed 50 percent.
