Mystery Thriller "White Night" Opens

Based on Keigo Higashino's best-selling mystery novel ("Byakuyako" in Japanese) and produced by hit director-producer Kang Woo-suk ("Silmido", "Public Enemy" series), "White Night" opened to high anticipation in theaters across the nation Nov 19, taking 2nd place at a weekend box office dominated by Hollywood blockbuster 2012.

The film is director Park Shin-woo-I's feature debut. Park first drew attention after winning the jury award his short film "About a Bad Boy" at the Mise-en-scene Short Film Festival. "White Night" stars veteran actor Han Suk-kyu ("Shiri") as a police detective investigating a series of brutal murders. It also stars Son Ye-jin and heartthrob Go Soo as a pair of fate-tangled lovers with a penchant for killing.

The immensely popular source novel was made into a successful TV series in Japan. The film adaptation follows the novel for the most part while making some incidental changes. "White Night" was released on 481 screens, drawing 353,336 admissions by Sunday close.
