Korea's contents-related industries have come together to develop new stories and turn them into high-quality content that has appeal on the global market.

The Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA, President & CEO Lee Jae-woong) hosted the Korea New Story Creation Project presentation with some 200 producers, investors and distributors, and writers at the Contents Hall, 2nd floor of the DMC Cultural Contents Center in Sangam-dong.

The presentation was emceed by Song Seung-hwan (current CEO of PMC), the producer of Nanta. Here, President Lee of KOCCA reemphasized the importance of story as a source and announced that the agency would organize Korea's biggest story competition and provide well-rounded support to the winners so as to identify creative stories and develop them into competitive content for the global market. A total of KRW12.5 billion will be invested in this project by next year, he added.
Anticipation for the success of the project increased with distinguished guests of the presentation. They include CEO Kim Jeong-ah of CJ Entertainment; President Kim Ok-young of the Korean TV & Radio Writers Association; Chairman Geum Kang of the Korea Popular Culture Writers Association; Chairman Jeong Seon-eon of the Korea Independent Productions Association; Director Pyo Min-soo, famous for TV series "Full House" and "Worlds Within"; Writer Hong Jin-ah, famous for her work with "Beethoven Virus"; Chairman Kim Hyeon-ho of the Korean Society of Cartoon & Animation Studies; CEO Lee In-ho of Macrograph which was in charge of the CG for Forbidden Kingdom starring Jackie Chan; Chairman Lee Seung-hun of the Korea Game Developers Association; Kim Jang-wook, the head of Media & Future of SK Telecom; and many more contents production industry representatives as well as actor Park Yong-woo (starring in "Jejungweon", a new TV series currently in production).

The Korea New Story Creation Project is a one-stop project to integrate and interlink supports for production of contents. Previously assistance has been offered separately for each genre and each project

KOCCA plans to ▲ Identify creative stories and establish a total support system for commercial development, ▲ Expand the export of content with global market competitiveness, ▲ Identify talented multimedia-style storytellers and lay a foundation for growth, and ▲ Create a public consensus on the importance of promotion of the storytelling industry through the phase-in approach of this project.
The launch of Korea New Story Creation Project will be marked with Korea's biggest story competition with a budget of KRW450 million. KOCCA will not only identify competitive stories but provide one-stop support for scenario completion, contents production, and distribution.
With overseas market entry in mind from the stage of beginning, OSMU (one source multi use) strategy will be implemented. Along with this, investment & loan for production financing will be interlinked. And by providing support for film production and distribution & marketing global competitiveness of contents will be sharpened. For this, KOCCA plans to invest a total of KRW12.5 billion by 2010.
Any Korean citizens are eligible to participate in the story competition as individuals, teams, or corporations. There is no limit to themes. Scenario or works in any form are admitted as long as they can be adapted into TV series, theatrical TV drama, animated films, or other forms of contents. The total prize money for the 14 winners will amount to KRW450 million, including KRW150 million for the Grand Prix winner, a record high for a competition of this nature.
