NK Screening of `Empress Chung' Confirmed

SEOUL, July 12 (Yonhap) _ A publicist for an animated feature film co-produced by South and North Korean production houses said Tuesday that he received confirmation that the film would screen in North Korea next month.

"The animated movie `Empress Chung' will open in North Korea on Aug. 15 Liberation Day", the film's publicist said. "I received an e-mail from the North Korean co-production firm confirming that screening permission for the film has been granted".

"Empress Chung" will be shown at six theaters in Pyongyang, with several prominent North Korean actors taking part in the dubbing work, he said.

Liberation Day on Aug. 15, marking the day in 1945 when Korea was liberated from Japanese colonial rule, is a common national holiday for the two Koreas.

Based on the Korean folk tale "Sim Chung", "Empress Chung" has been widely acclaimed at various international film festivals. The South Korean release of the film is scheduled for Aug. 12.
