North American Tour of Jeon Soo-il's Retrospective launches in
Montreal, accompanied by Canadian independent short films

Award-winning Korean filmmaker Jeon Soo-il arrives in Nov. 29th launching his acclaimed Retrospective Tour for the first time in North America!

Montreal, November 19, 2009 - Korean independent giant Jeon Soo-il's works will be introduced to the North American public for the first time at the Cinémathèque Québécoise from November 26 to December 2. Jeon's films have been awarded and featured internationally in film festivals, including the Cannes International Film Festival (Wind Echoing in My Being, 1997), Venice International Film Festival (With a Girl of Black Soil, 2007) and Pusan International Film Festival (Himalaya, 2008). His energetic creativity never stops while teaching film production in Kyungsung University and currently is in production for his 8th film.

This retrospective will showcase Jeon's six films at the Cinémathèque Québécoise: "Himalaya, Where the Wind Dwells" (2008), "With a Girl of Black Soil" (2007), "Time Between Dog And Wolf - Movie" (2005), "My Right to Ravage Myself" (2003), "The Bird who stops in the Air" (1999), and "Wind Echoing My Being" (1997).

This retrospective is a continuation of one originally begun in France and should represent a new discovery for North American audiences unfamiliar with Jeon Soo-il's work. This retrospective of his work aims to highlight Jeon's unique cinematic vision in North America for the first time.

This retrospective in Montreal has been made possible through collaborations with Cinematheque Quebecoise and support from the Korean Culture and Information Service of the Republic of Korea. This North American tour of the retrospective will continue until April 2010 at the following institutions: Toronto (The Royal Theatre, Jan. 2-6), Vancouver (Pacific Cinematheque, Jan. 7-13) Los Angeles (UCLA Film Archive, Jan. 15-24), Ottawa (Canadian Film Institute, Jan. 27-30) Washington D.C. (Smithsonian Institution, April 2010) with the various partners from across Canada and the United States that will be announced.
