[OBITUARY]Veteran actor Kim Dong-won-III dies at 90

Kim Dong-won-III, Korea's renowned first-generation theatrical actor, died at the age of 90 on Saturday after two years of fighting against illness.

Born in 1916 in Gaeseong, he graduated from the art department of Nihon University in Tokyo before he came back to Korea and became one of the founding members of the National Theater Company.

Kim was known as the first Korean actor to play Hamlet in 1951 when the play was staged by Shinhyeop, one of two exclusive theatrical companies which later merged to become the National Drama Company, in Daegu. He later served as president of the company from 1975 to 1979.

Kim performed in over 300 works including "Wonsullang", "Jamyeonggo" ("Alarming Drum"), "Death of a Salesman" and "Faust". He also appeared in various films such as "The Enemy of Women", "Maeui Taeja" ("Crown Prince Maeui" or "Crown Prince in Hemp Clothes") and "Chunhyangjeon" ("Tale of Chunhyang").
