"Oldboy" Ticket Sales Hit $500,000 in U.S.

The movie "Oldboy" has recorded US$500,000 in ticket sales in the U.S., bringing the number of Korean movies that took in more than $500,000 in U.S. box offices to four. The other three movies are "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... And Spring", "Taegukgi", and "Chunhyang".

According to a box office rating website on May 10, "Oldboy", which opened in the U.S. on March 25 (local time), recorded sales of $522,514 as of May 8, seven weeks since its release. And the movie's weekend (May 6-8) box office sales reached $28,301, ranking 50th.

Another Korean movie, "3-Iron" (director Kim Ki-duk), which opened in the U.S. on April 29, took in $24,471 on the same weekend, ranking 53rd, and has grossed $53,307 in total revenues. The top spot of the weekend box office ratings went to "The Kingdom of Heaven", starring Orlando Bloom, which took in $19,635,996.

Of all Korean movies that opened in the U.S. to date, "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... And Spring", which opened April 2, 2004, has recorded the highest revenue with $2,380,788. The runner-up is "Taegukgi", which opened Sept. 3, 2004, grossing $1,111,061, followed by "Chunhyang", which opened Dec. 29, 2000 and took in $798,977.
