[Orion's Daily Ramblings] Kim Byung-choon Joins "Bad Papa" as Chief Inspector and Lonesome Dad

"Bad Papa" has slowly been adding to its cast, and the latest one to join is yet another father with woes, played by actor Kim Byung-choon. Hero Yoo Ji-cheol's (Jang Hyuk) involvement with the law seems to be a central element in the series, given its casting so far, and this papa ally might provide our Ji-cheol with some good influence.

Kim Byung-choon's agency, Jung Entertainment, announced that the actor has been cast in "Bad Papa" as chief inspector Park Min-sik. Min-sik is the head of the investigations division, but he's also a "goose dad", meaning a man who financially supports his wife and child's living in an English-speaking country for the sake of the child's education. Although he always gets into trouble because of Ji-cheol, he stills feels sorry for our hero.
Suffering fathers unite? I do hope that the drama will not just be about action and some mystery, superhero-making substance. Korean drama rarely tackles fatherhood as a central idea without revenge, action or some other form of machismo grandeur on a pedestal thrown in. Perhaps a show about a fighter is not the place to see a different take on masculinity, but I'm shamelessly hopeful. I look forward to meeting "Bad Papa" in September, on MBC.
