[Orion's Daily Ramblings] Kim Hyun-joon and Lee Yul-eum Become Siblings for "Jang Geum, Oh My Grandma"

We have some new casting additions for upcoming series "Jang Geum, Oh My Grandma", a story about the struggles of daily life experienced by the iconic figure's 28th generation descendants, siblings Han San-hae, Han Jin-mi and Han Jeong-sik. Actors Lee Yul-eum and Kim Hyun-joon join Shin Dong-wook to form this trio.

Lee Yul-eum ("Longing Heart", "The King") plays Han Jin-mi, the descendant who has inherited a highly developed sense of smell. She also exhibits a ferocious urge to eat, but her dream of becoming an idol means that she has been constantly struggling through various diets. Her contrasting doll-like appearance, and her relationship to food give birth to a 'new mukbang (eating show) fairy'.

Kim Hyun-joon ("Wok of Love", "Illang : The Wolf Brigade") plays the youngest of the three, Han Jeong-sik. On the surface, Jeong-sik is just a young man preparing for the civil service exam, but he is actually moonlighting as a cooking show YouTuber. He is reportedly the secret strength of his house, keeping his brother's ultimate sense of taste, and his sister's ultimate sense of smell and eating habits in check with his ultimate cooking.

I am intrigued by the modernity of the family's relationship to food, from the element of internet fame to struggling with an eating disorder and societal expectations. I hope that the latter element will be portrayed well, rather than stigmatize or make light of body image and health. "Jang Geum, Oh My Grandma" will premiere on October 4th at 23:10 KST on MBC.
