[Orion's Daily Ramblings] "Miss Hammurabi" Releases an Emotional and Contemplative Teaser

The promotional campaign for "Miss Hammurabi", jTBC's upcoming human courtroom drama, has been mostly light in tone, but the show's latest teaser takes a more human, more heartfelt approach to the guilt of perpetrators, the pain of victims, and the moral struggle of the judicial officials who bind them.

The video maintains focus on the three leads, but this time we go a little bit deeper. We get to explore how they feel about their duty as individuals and expressions of the law, when that duty can make or break a person's life. The taglines read "Our heart-warming stories" and "Only a person can judge a person".

The most surprising twist is the new layer of Im Ba-reun (Kim Myung-soo). The young man has more heart than I imagined. "If you wear the judicial robe, you should erase a person's face, but never a person's feelings", he says. The world-weary Han Se-sang (Sung Dong-il) is still affected by his work as well, 20 years into his career. His words are "These clothes symbolize the duty of the judiciary to the sovereign people. Please remember that".

Park-Cha Oh-reum (Go Ara) feels like that splash of cold water waking people up. Her character is all heart, too much heart, but she looks like someone who inspires growth. She reminds us "Do you know how many people out there work hard and live their lives day by day without knowing how to write or read a contract?" She also tackles the fluidity of guilt, expressing her belief that the punishment should be as harsh as the severity of the crime, before she closes with her conviction of "I will not give up".

I didn't expect to have my emotions caught by surprise by "Miss Hammurabi", but this teaser shows exactly the kind of series I've been wishing for it to be. I can't wait to meet the judges and the lives they touch, starting on Monday, on jTBC.
