[Orion's Daily Ramblings] OnStyle Drama "Chubby Romance" Tackles Self-Love and Body Image

Could it finally be the time for a cute romance starring a larger gal in a successful OTP, without caveats, and magical weight loss solutions? I can't help but feel terrified and excited, as upcoming OnStyle drama "Chubby Romance" tackles the topic through an adorable protagonist.

"Chubby Romance" is a romantic comedy about the heroine's love story, as well as a growth drama about learning to love yourself the way you are. Girls Alert member SatByeol is starring as Gong Soo-rin, and member Gooseul is also starring as Im Gu-seul. It's especially encouraging to see idols tackling such stories, and doing the work for it.
SatByeol gained 8kg for the role, like a boss, and the actress has stated "This is my first time acting, but I took the character on with great enthusiasm and passion. I learned how to love myself while portraying Gong Soo-rin". I will get to my thoughts in a moment, but first, the boys! Jung Min-gyu takes on the male lead role of Kim Min-jae, and Han Se-jin plays Yeon Joo-hyeok, a young man with a cute demeanor and a warm smile, who is struggling to become the ideal type of Gu-seul.
I always worry when entertainment tackles weight, especially in the extremely appearance-driven South Korea. I've been disappointed before, after all. The rare larger protagonist will only be given the right to love and self-love after losing weight. Even "Incarnation of Money", which had its leading lady gain her weight back for the happy romantic ending, was disgustingly fatphobic throughout.
So, honestly, give me some true main story body positivity aside from "Rude Miss Young-ae", Dramaland. I think it's time, and I hope that "Chubby Romance" will be it. Just look at the teaser. It's. So. Cute. The drama will premiere on November 28th on Facebook, YouTube and Naver TV, while it will also air on the OnStyle channel in December. Studio OnStyle's YouTube account replied to a user regarding English subtitles, and it looks like we'll be getting them!
