This forever thirsty for science fiction in Korean entertainment puppy has mixed feelings about Samsung's upcoming dystopian web drama featuring Kim Sohye, Yang Dong-geun and Shin Goo, "Ambergris". According to the description provided by Samsung, "Ambergris", which is named after what is more or less sperm whale bile, takes place in the year 2053. Humanity has advanced in science in technology, but one unresolved problem leads us into a dystopian state. The protagonist, played by Kim Sohye, a weather forecaster, played by Yang Dong-geun, and an AI embark on a journey no doubt related to this downfall.

Samsung has commented that the web drama format was chosen to reach a younger demographic, which is more accustomed to video content. The message of the production is reportedly that Artificial Intelligence can make human life more enriching, which is to be expected by its type of an advertising campaign. I'm not going to open that can of worms about how far AI can go before ethical and doomsday implications, but I hope that our phones won't be summoning The Terminator any time soon.

"Ambergris" will be a 4-part series lasting a total of 40 minutes, and released on Youtube and Facebook two times a week, for two weeks. It is the fifth web drama installment by Samsung following "Infinite Power" (2013), "The Best Future" (2014), "Falling for Challenge" (2015) and "Be Positive" (2016), and it is the first to be exclusively produced by the company.
