[Orion's Daily Ramblings] Studio Dragon Acquires Production Company of Noh Hee-kyeong, Kim Kyoo-tae and Hong Jong-chan

CJ ENM's Studio Dragon has become a major player in Dramaland, having produced or co-created dramas such as "Circle", "Secret Forest", "Life on Mars" and, more recently, "Touch Your Heart", "Possessed" and "He Is Psychometric". The ever-present studio is now taking another major step, and has revealed its future plans surrounding it.

Studio Dragon will be acquiring 200,000 stocks (100%) of GT:st at about 25 billion won (close to $22 million). GT:st houses creators such as writer Noh Hee-kyeong, director Kim Kyoo-tae and director Hong Jong-chan. Noh Hee-kyeong is, of course, a great figure of Korean drama, having penned works for over two decades, including collaborations with the aforementioned PDs such as "Dear My Friends", "Live", "That Winter, the Wind Blows", "It's Okay, That's Love" and more.

Studio Dragon reportedly plans to create high-quality dramas as collaborations between its own creators and the ones already housed in GT:st, while they also plan to have Noh Hee-kyeong mentor new writers, whose works will be produced by about 1 to 2 per year. This sounds like a beneficial situation for everyone involved, so I'm definitely looking forward to the results, and definitely trust Noh Hee-kyeong with nurturing new talent.

On the acquisition, Studio Dragon commented "Securing excellent creators is the key for strengthening the studio's competitiveness in the rapidly changing media environment where the quality of contents is valued more than the quantity", adding that the acquisition will also enable them to produce an extra 3 to 4 good quality dramas per year.
