[Orion's Daily Ramblings] "Thirty But Seventeen" Releases First Stills of Its Oddball Duo

The unapologetically weird "Thirty But Seventeen" continues to play up its leading pair's unconventional existence in new stills of Shin Hye-sun and Yang Se-jong. The two people have been living outside of our society for different reasons, and they have a long way to go before it feels familiar again.

Shin Hye-sun is Woo Seo-ri, a woman suffering from "mind-body dissonance" as a result of falling into a coma at the age of 17 and waking up at age 30. The actress is reportedly showing a fresh and endearing charm as a 17-year-old. At the same time, she will be delicately portraying the sadness of someone forced to skip the most brilliant time of youth in her life.

The actress has commented "Unlike my previous works, I play a bright and lovely character. I am studying a lot so that I can express her charm. The writer is working on the script with great care. If I stick to the script, I feel that a pretty character will be born. I will work hard, and I ask for your attention and love".

When I originally read that Yang Se-jong's Gong Woo-jin shuns the world, I was not prepared for the lengths to which he'd go to for it. Our hero has chosen a life of solitude, and although being a recluse does not require you to look like you're auditioning for ZZ Top, his disheveled appearance does make a statement. If I have one wish, it's for them to go all out and name his dog Wilson.

On his role, Yang Se-jong has commented "I am now playing a role where I can show many unique and comical aspects that I did not get to show in previous works. I am going for a more fresh and fun appearance. I am a little worried about how my extreme makeover will be received by audiences, but I am excited when I think of it as an opportunity to show a new look. I am having fun filming this, and I ask for your anticipation and support".

Their shared inexperience of the world does soften the blow of what was originally shaping up to be a problematic teen(minded)-adult pairing, so I'm warming up to the idea of "Thirty But Seventeen", and might just give it a little look-see. The drama will be premiering on July 23rd on SBS.
