It has been a troubled and tumultuous week and today is a day of unrest for many, but life in Dramaland carries on as usual. First up I bring you new goodies from "Saimdang: Light's Diary", including Lee Young-ae's thoughts on the series, her character and her own career. I also talk about drama specials and bring you new posters and a video from "Defendant".
Shin Saimdang Makes an Entrance
"Saimdang: Light's Diary" is almost here and goodies are coming out. We have new stills and information for Song Seung-heon's character. We also have a teaser as well as some thoughts by star Lee Young-ae. I am not well-versed in Korean history, but what little I do know about Shin Saimdang paints her as a conflicting icon. While definitely a feminist figure for her time, she has also been used to glorify Confucian patriarchy. I am curious to see how her legacy is handled in the drama.
Short and Sweet
Drama specials have been around for some time, but they have not been very well marketed to international viewers. This is a shame, because they are a great platform for new ideas, creators and actors. They also enable seasoned actors, who usually do not receive leading roles to display their talent and skill. The short format is now picking up, according to this piece and "Three Color Fantasy" is a part of it. You can check out posters and a teaser for "Three Color Fantasy - The Stars In Space" as well as the poster for "Three Color Fantasy - Vivid Romance".
Hello Amnesia, My Old Friend
Memory loss is undoubtedly a big dramatic driving force in Dramaland. It is unfortunately one which is mostly used very badly, but there is always the occasional ray of hope. I hope "Defendant" can use it well by making it its premise. Having Ji Sung as the titular character, an amnesiac prosecutor trying to clear his name will definitely help in terms of selling his plight. The series has new posters with its main characters as well as a new teaser.
Upcoming Drama Goodies
We have a few new teasers and first up is "Chief Kim" followed by "Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People", formerly known as "Rebel Hong Gil-dong". "Tomorrow With You" has a few of its own and I am thoroughly confused as to what tone this is going for. In casting news, Lee Tae-ri is up for "Housewife Detective" and so is Hwang Chan-sung while Han Ji-min and Lee Hee-joon have been cast in "Miss Baek". Kim Min-jae-I has been cast in "While You Were Sleeping".
Now that my new drama season is here, I am left with two shows I highly enjoy and this makes me a happy viewer and reviewer. The premiere week of "Missing 9" has exceeded my expectations, which are admittedly quite low for any new concept in Dramaland. I also need my "Solomon's Perjury" episodes now, so off I go! Have a happy weekend, folks!
