Park claimed that the woman and her friends demanded a W1 billion settlement but later came down to W500 million.

Police, who are investigating three other rape charges against Park, say they have testimony from the boyfriend of the first alleged victim that she met her boyfriend at the scene just after she was allegedly raped on June 4.

Police also confirmed that the woman, her boyfriend and another man met several times with staff from Park's agency C-JeS Entertainment.

A police spokesman said, "We've been investigating rape charges against Park, but now also plan to investigate whether there was any blackmail".

Police said the man who accompanied the woman and her boyfriend told agency staff that he was a member of a crime syndicate. "But he's not a gangster who's on our watchlist", the police spokesman said.

The trio apparently fell out over the blackmail attempt. After the woman dropped her charges against Park, the second man grew suspicious that she and her boyfriend had made a separate deal with Park and cut him out, which the couple denied.

The woman's boyfriend told the Chosun Ilbo by phone on Monday, "We pressed charges at first out of anger but retracted them when we found out that the sex was consensual and have no intention of demanding compensation".
