PIFF Names Korean Cinema Award Recipients

The 14th Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) has selected Jeannette Paulson HERENIKO and Riccardo GELLI as recipients of the Korean Cinema Award in recognition of their dedication to introduce Korean cinema to the United States and Italy. The award is presented annually during the festival to those who make contributions to Korean films by introducing them to the global film industry.

HERENIKO is former director of both the Hawaii and Palm Springs International Film Festivals. She has been tireless in her effort to introduce Korean films to the United States, organizing retrospectives of director Bae Chang-ho and Im Kwon-taek. She is also a founding member of NETPAC. GELLI is director of the Korea Film Festival in Florence, now in its 7th year. He has worked hard to introduce numerous Korean film directors, including Kim Ki-duk, to Italy.

PIFF has also selected the "Bollywood Emperor" Yash CHOPRA as recipient of the "Asian Filmmaker of the Year" award. CHOPRA has been one of the most influential producers and directors in India over the last few decades. The ceremony will be held during the 2009 Asian Cinema Night party co-sponsored by PIFF and L'Oréal Paris.
