[Quick Guest Review] Korean Movie "R2B: Return to Base"

Rain returns to Korea with a big blockbuster starring in "R2B: Return to Base", a remake of Shin Sang-ok's film "The Red Scarf". It tells the story of a hot shot pilot, Captain Jung Tae-Yoon played by Rain who is sent back to the force after a dangerous stunt with the Elite Black Eagles during an air show.

Rain does a good job at portraying the cocky pilot. There isn't anything too outstanding about his performance but he does get you to laugh a few times. He is also supported by a great cast who all play their parts well. One in particular was Kim Sung-soo. This was the first time I have seen him in a film and he played the part of the old academy senior and flight leader. I immediately liked him from his first scene with Rain. All the actors made you believe they were all once close friends.

One thing though, this film is set up as an action film. The trailer gives you two minutes from one of the plane battles and you expect to see a lot more of this. However, the scene they show is one of the two battles that take place in the film. The film seems to focus more on Tae-Yoon trying to woo over his mechanic played by Shin Se-kyung and as well as beating his rivals in the air games. Still, the movie is a lot of fun and I don't think you will be disappointed.

If you are looking for a fun movie or are a big fan of Rain, then this is the film for you. Rain's performance in "R2B: Return to Base" is a huge step-up from his last role of playing a ninja. I give it 3 out of 5 stars and will probably make its way to my movie collection.
