"Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People" re-highlights Hong Gil-dong, an existing character during the Yeon San Gun era. He stole the hearts of the people and not their fortune and the drama points out what a leader needs to fulfill to earn the hearts of the nation.
Kim Sang-joong plays Ah Mo-gae, Hong Gil-dong's father. He beats destiny as an ancestral slave to raise his sons Gil-hyeon who goes down the path of education, and Gil-dong who is incredibly strong.
Kim Sang-joong is known for his outstanding character digestion. He is made-up and disguised as a slave that opposes to the unreasonable society.
Kim Sang-joong has been the host of the current affairs TV show "We Want To Know" which digs up corruption from March of 2008 until now. In addition, he's played the roles of many great Korean historical figures, making him one of the best actors for the role of Ah Mo-gae.
Kim Sang-jong said, "The story of Ah Mo-gae is what we are going through and it gets me thinking. I am careful about making my character as I don't want to let him down and let his efforts go to waste".
