Record Number Entries for JIFF

Korea's major independent film festival Jeonju International Film Festival announced that a record breaking number of 1,035 films applied for this year's eighth edition. It's an increase of 17% from last year when 888 films applied.

Among the entries are 661 Korean films and 374 International films from 51 countries. Local films consist of 49 feature films and 612 short films. The 151 foreign feature films mark an increase of 51% compared to last year.

JIFF pointed out the Jeonju Digital Project 2007 which featured in competition at the Locarno International Film Festival, as the reason for the sharp increase in foreign feature films. JIFF will have more awards for local films to improve the festival and to make it possible to grow.

Selections will be announced from this month March. Chief programmer of JIFF JUNG Soo-wan said, "We hope that JIFF is the place to give a chance and a favor to many independent filmmakers".
