Registered Vehicles in Korea Surpass 23 Million

Registered vehicles in Korea now exceed 23 million as air quality reaches alarming levels.
 
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said the number of cars registered in Korea stood at 23.2 million last year, up three percent from 2017. That means every 2.2 Koreans own a car.

Last year, 1.84 million vehicles were newly registered, 298,000 of them imported, up 10.8 percent compared to 2017, while domestic cars were down two percent. Foreign cars accounted for 9.4 percent of vehicles registered last year, compared to 8.4 percent the year before. Gasoline-fueled cars made up 45.8 percent, followed by an alarmingly high proportion of diesel cars at 42.8 percent, and LPG vehicles at 8.8 percent.
