Report: N. Koreans Enjoy Chuseok Holiday In Traditional Manner

And, those up in the North seem to have celebrated the traditional harvest holiday in a rather relaxed manner as well.
North Korea's international radio broadcaster, Radio Pyeongyang, reported Monday that various events marking the Chuseok holiday, including Ssireum, or Korean traditional folk wrestling competition, a traditional food fair and clothing exhibition took place throughout that country.

The broadcaster also said that women and children there enjoyed the holidays playing Korean traditional games.
It wasn't until 1988 that North Korea began to recognize Chuseok as a national holiday due to belief that celebrating traditional holidays in different family rituals would only blemish the principle of equality in a totalitarian state.
