Rotten Dumplings Inspire 'Oldboy' Parody Pictures

As the "garbage dumpling" scandal sends shockwaves throughout our society, parody pictures based on the movie "Oldboy" have been rapidly making their way around the Internet, and Korean Internet users have been making their fury known on the dumpling companies' homepages.
Police booked on Sunday five individuals, including a 38-year-old man by the name of Kim, for unsanitarily processing rotten Chinese-made pickled radish that was to be thrown away to make dumpling stuffing and then supplying that stuffing to 11 famous food companies since 1999.
Oh shows a note "We came to find the bastards who made the dumpling stuffing".
On Tuesday, office workers were passing back and forth on the Internet a file of pictures entitled, "Choi Min-sik's Revenge", and Internet sites like 'DC Inside' that have uploaded parody pictures like "The Dumpling's Secret" and "The 15-Year Life of a Rotten Dumpling" were recording a lot of hits.
These parodies focus on the point that the hero of "Oldboy", Oh Dae-su (played by Choi Min-sik), was fed only fried dumplings (Korean: gun-mandu) during his 15 years in captivity in the film. The dumplings play a key role in Oh's tale of revenge.
In the actual movie, Oh and his girlfriend Mi-do believe they are bugged, so they go to an electronic store, where Oh shows the storeowner a note, "We are being bugged. Please search us". In one of the parody pictures, however, the note says, "We came to find the bastards who made the dumpling stuffing".
Another picture spoofs a scene in the film where Oh engages in a bloody rumble with gangsters after finding the place where he was confined based on his memories of the dumpling taste. The scene, which won high praise for director Park Chan-wook at Cannes, is replaced by a scene of Oh venting his wrath over having eaten dumplings made from rotten radish for 15 years.
In another picture, we return to the scene in the electronics store, where Oh says, "Did you sell those dumplings? Look at how my eyes are crossed. I ate those things for 15 years, so now my eyes have become rotten dumplings". Mido says, "My daddy's breath smells of rotten radishes".
On the homepage of the Korean Food and Drug Administration, Internet users are demanding that the body release the names of the businesses that used the rotten radishes in their dumplings. In particular, the KFDA released on Monday the names of 25 businesses that received dumpling stuffing made from rotten materials, causing a great stir. The body quickly erased the names within the hour, but the names of the companies had already gone round the Internet and found their way onto personal webpages.
The KFTA's position is that the dumpling companies that received the stuffing without knowing it was rotten are also victims, so it will not release their names. The businesses that were named in that brief moment, however, have been catching hell. Many of those businesses' homepages are on the verge of being shut down.
If you click onto one of those homepages, a pop-up window appears that denies the company puts pickled radish in its dumplings. It then says in another window that this is not a lie.
On the other hand, those companies that didn't receive the rotten dumpling stuffing have been breathing easy. One large food processing company said, "Even if it's on the Internet for only 10 minutes, the rumors have gone round by mid-day... That our company did not receive the rotten dumpling stuffing is incredibly fortunate".
