Sales of Heat-Busting Items Soar Along with Temperatures

The freak hot spell has proved to be a boon for sales of some equally unusual summer goods.

According to online shopping site 11st on Monday, sales of electric foot fans jumped 63 percent on-year in May, while those of cooling wrist rests, which keep your mouse-using hand from overheating, rose 16 percent.

"These products are popular among people in their 20s and 30s as they are cheap and don't use a lot of power", said a spokesman of the shopping site.

At Gmarket, sales of portable electric fans grew by a record 573 percent last month from a year earlier, while sales of cool gel pillows, which absorb body heat, rose 67 percent.

"Sales of various ingenious products such as foot fans and cooling mats, as well as large air conditioners and electric fans, are growing", a Gmarket staffer said. "With the rise of single households, consumers are opting for smaller cooling products over big, expensive ones".
