Samsung Owner, Wife Biggest Korean Stockholders

 

Samsung Electronics chairman Lee Kun-hee and his wife Hong Ra-hee, the director of the Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, are the biggest individual Korean stockholders.

According to data from Chaebul.com, a conglomerate research firm, Lee owns W11.14 trillion (US$1=W1,086) worth of stocks as of Friday's closing price. Samsung Electronics shares ended on Friday at a record high W1.44 million a share.

Hong owns W1.56 trillion worth of stocks, making her the wealthiest female shareholder. Until now, Hong's sister-in-law, Shinsegae Department Store Group chairwoman Lee Myung-hee, had been the wealthiest woman, but now her stocks are worth W1.43 trillion.

Fourteen individuals hold stocks worth more than W1 trillion. Hyundai Motor Group chairman Chung Mong-koo came in second with W6.37 trillion worth of stocks, followed by his son, Hyundai Motor vice president Chung Eui-son, with W2.98 trillion.

The president of cosmetics maker AmorePacific, Suh Kyung-bae, ranked fourth with W2.95 trillion.
