Seoul Home to Most Centenarians in Korea

Seoul is home to the largest number of centenarians in the country and also has the highest ratio of people aged over 100 to the total population.

According to census data from the Ministry of Security and Public Administration on Thursday, 4,522 centenarians lived in Seoul as of last month, accounting for 30 percent of all 14,592 centenarians in the country.

The capital also ranks first in terms of the ratio of centenarians to the total population in the area at 0.044 percent, followed by Busan (0.039 percent), South Jeolla Province (0.036 percent) and Gangwon Province (0.035 percent).

The number of centenarians in Seoul has risen steadily from 3,523 in 2010.
