According to news reports from Seoul, the capital city's Metropolitan Government will construct a complex on 121,000 square meters of land around northwestern Seoul's Digital Media City (DMC) by 2014. Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon said that "DMC will be reborn as the best cultural content hub in Northeast Asia".
The Korea Times states: "The city will invest 170 billion won ($150 million) to set up a cinema complex, which will include sets, computer graphics facilities, pre- and post-production facilities, and hallyu (Korean wave) exhibition halls…… A hallyu museum will entertain fans of Korean films, and visitors may have a chance to observe the filming process and meet hallyu stars at the sets".
"A one-stop process of production and distribution will be available at the complex, along with film sets and production and distribution companies that will move to DMC soon", Shin Myun-ho, assistant mayor for economic promotion, told the newspaper. The project is expected to create 68,000 jobs.
In addition to the above facilities, the "Seoul Culture Contents Center" will be set up by 2012, featuring game and animation companies. There are also plans for a movie theme park.
