Seungri Applies for Enlistment Deferment to Cooperate With Ongoing Investigation

Former Big Bang member Seungri, who has been booked with charges of prostitution and more, claimed that he would apply to the Military Manpower Administration for a deferment of his enlistment and cooperate with the investigations sincerely.

The MMA posted a notice on its homepage saying "The MMA's stance regarding Seungri's deferring enlistment" on the 15th. "The Military Manpower Administration has no legal basis for delaying the date of entry into the army by authority. However, if a person finds it difficult to enter the military service on given date he or she is designated, he or she can apply for deferment and we will review the postponement in accordance with Article 129 paragraph 1 of the Enforcement Decree of the Military Service Act".

It added possibility of Seungri's deployment being postponed by saying, "For reference, there have been cases in which the date of entry was postponed and approved".

Seungri is suspected of being involved in sex and drug related crimes and to the club Burning Sun. However, when he announced his enlistment on the 25th, he was surrounded by criticism that he was fleeing into the army.

Seungri is scheduled be enlisdted in the Nonsan Training Camp on the 25th. Regarding the matter, the chief of the Military Manpower Administration said, "We will review the decision carefully when the request is received".

Currently, the possible reasons for postponement in accordance with Article 129 paragraph 1 of the Enforcement Decree of the Military Service Act are: a person whose military service is difficult to fulfill due to illness or mental disability; a person whose spouse, sibling, or family member is in critical condition or dead, and it needed to arrange household affairs, such as nursing or funeral; someone who has suffered natural disasters or other disasters that is difficult to deal with; persons applying for the recruitment or conversion service of a different form of army and waiting for the results; a person who is granted permission to travel abroad or to extend his or her travel abroad, or who is not under 25 years of age and is waiting to leave the country; a person who is taking an entrance examination to a school; a person who is unable to fulfill his military service for other unavoidable reasons.
