Shilla Becomes Korea's 1st 5-Star Hotel

Hotel Shilla Seoul was awarded the first official five-star rating in Korea on Thursday under a new rating system.

The five-star plaque was unveiled at the hotel with officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Korea Tourism Organization attending.

The new rating system follows the international convention, abolishing Korea's own system of rating hotels with roses of Sharon that was started in 1971.

Hotel Shilla passed both an open inspection by three experts and a secret review in March this year
