The Seoul Central District Court on Tuesday found for the plaintiff, weight-loss company Juvis, against Kim and his agency, and ordered them to pay W65 million in compensation.

Juvis paid Kim W130 million in September 2015 for a modeling deal for a yearlong weight-loss program. At the time, Kim, who weighed 113 kg, set a goal of cutting his weight to 85 kg.

He reached that goal in April the following year.

But then, citing his busy schedule, he abandoned the program, and within four months his weight ballooned back to 95.4 kg.

Under the contract, he was supposed to participate in a diet program once a week to maintain his reduced weight even after the contract expired.

"Some Juvis customers demanded refunds or cancelled weight counseling programs because Kim's yo-yoing weight was widely publicized not long after he succeeded in losing weight", the court said. "Kim's agency has the obligation to compensate Juvis for its financial loss".

The agency was ordered to pay back half his modeling fee since Juvis benefited to some extent from his weight loss.
