Smart Room Service at Skypark Central Hotel

It's easy to get confused by all the remote controls and switches in an unfamiliar hotel room, especially when you're jetlagged. That's why LG CNS, a Korean IT service provider, partnered with Skypark Central Hotel in Seoul to debut a new "smart room service" for guests. At this hotel, many common functions like turning on the television and lights can all be done quickly in one place: the smartphone you receive at the front desk. Since the Skypark Central Hotel is located right in the middle of Myeongdong, one of Seoul's most vibrant and popular shopping districts, the sooner you can leave your hotel and have fun, the better!

Check in at the reservation desk at the Skypark Central Hotel and you will be issued a smartphone to unlock your room instead of a card key. Once inside your room, you can adjust the temperature and order dinner by tapping the touchscreen. If you need extra pillows or want to tell housekeeping not to disturb you, there's an app for that right on the phone.

Right now, Skypark operates four hotels in Myeongdong and the smart room service is only available in 16 rooms of Skypark Central's 15th floor. However, LG CNS says it is looking to expand the service to the hotel's two new hotels that are currently being planned.

Later, guests may be able to access this smart room service by downloading an app on their own mobile devices, instead of receiving one from the hotel. LG CNS also wants to give guests the ability to book rooms and pay for their stay on their smartphones, too.

AT&D has written before about how Korean hotels are increasingly upping the ante for tech-savvy guests with on-site medical clinics and in-room integrated multimedia hubs. Smartphone-enabled room service seems to be the next step for hotels seeking to differentiate their guest experiences in this bustling market. Tourists visiting one of the most wired countries in the world also expect a certain level of seamless integration with their connected lifestyles.
