Actor Song Il-gook will visit Beijing as a representative of South Korea on July 2 to attend a culture festival marking the upcoming Beijing Olympics. Song was invited to the festival by the Chinese state-run broadcaster, CCTV. Song, who is popular in China for his role in the series "Terms of Endearment", decided to accept the invitation despite his busy schedule in order to "pay back all the love" from his Chinese fans.

"Terms of Endearment", which has been airing throughout China on CCTV since May 1, has exploded in popularity, recording viewer ratings of 15 percent. The Chinese female audience has shown great interest in Song's role of a loving husband who continues to love and protect his wife even after learning that she lived with another man before she married him.

Song's popularity in China is expected to skyrocket if the series "Emperor of The Sea", which also stars the actor, is shown in that country as well. The series, which enjoyed popularity in Korea for its magnificent scale and the superb acting of its cast, has attracted significant attention in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Upon his arrival in China, Song will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. at the Beijing Kensinki Hotel, expected to be attended by journalists from over 30 major Chinese media organs, and give an interview to CCTV.

In the evening of the same day, he will participate in the opening ceremony of the culture festival, which will be attended by some 30,000 people. As a representative of K-pop culture, Song will deliver a congratulatory message wishing for the success of the Beijing Olympics. Popular hallyu artists such as Boa, Kangta, TVXQ and Chunsangjihee will perform at the festival as well.

Song has recently become popular in Korea for his role of Yeom-jang in "Emperor of The Sea", which went off the air recently. Yeom-jang captivated viewers' hearts for his unconditional and silent love for main female character Jeong-hwa, who was also loved by his friend Jang Bo-go.

After returning to Korea, Song will film the movie "Formula Of Love", where he co-stars alongside actress Son Ye-jin.
