Special Mention and NETPAC award for "Daytime Drinking" at Locarno

Director Noh Young-seok's independent feature "Daytime Drinking" received Locarno International Film Festival's Special Mention at the closing ceremony of the 61st edition of the renowned festival on August 16. The film also won the NETPAC(Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) award.

"Daytime Drinking" was invited to Locarno's International competition section. NOH's film shares the honor with the Chinese film Feast of Villains.

"Daytime Drinking" is a comic story which explores Korean culture and customs through the specifics of Korean drinking culture. In a drunken state, the protagonist(Song Jae-ha) decides with his friends to take a trip to the countryside after being dumped by his girlfriend. His friends, however, don't show up and locals won't take no for an answer when it comes to having a drink together, continuously postponing his return.

Meanwhile, Director BAE Yong-geon's "What is the Reason Why Bodhidharma Went to the East?" won Locarno's Grand prix for the best film in the international competition section in 1989. In 2001, actress Kim Ho-jung won Locarno's Bronze leopard in the Best actress category for her role in "The Butterfly" and director Moon Seung-wook received the Youth Jury Award for this film.
