On the episode 9 of KBS 2TV's "Beautiful Mind", how Lee Yeong-oh (Jang Hyuk) lost the ability to feel empathetic with people was revealed.

The flash back scene on this episode showed that Lee Geon-myeong (Huh Joon-ho) performed a surgery on Lee Yeong-oh (Jang Hyuk).
When Lee Yeong-oh was taken to the hospital where Lee Geon-myeong (Huh Joon-ho) was working, Lee Geon-myeong was put in charge of the emergency brain surgery. During the surgery, Lee Geon-myeong touched the frontal lobe of the patient's brain by mistake. Since then, the emotional center in Lee Yeong-oh's brain could not function properly.
When Lee Geon-myeong's fellow doctors asked him, "Don't you have to inform the child's guardians know about this?". Lee Geon-myeong said, "The child's guardian is me from now on".
