Hong Joo-won worked hard to complete the task ordered by Gwang Hae (Cha Seung-won) to smuggle sulphur from Edo, Japan into Joseon. However, it was just a trap set up by Gwang Hae in order to catch the rogue group, who had been trying to snatch sulphur and interfere the development of gun powder.

Hong Joo-won, who did not figure out the real purpose of Gwang Hae's order, kept working to complete the task with Jeongmyeong. And he was caught by the Japanese government in the process.

As this happened, Jeongmyeong aimed her sword to Hong Joo-won in front of the Japanese officers and told him, "Tell them you thought it was grain and insist you're innocent. Tell them I used you. Since you're a diplomat, things will work out this way for you. I must go back to Joseon. So you get out of here and come back to rescue me". And then she surrendered herself without resistance.

Thanks to Jeongmyeong, Hong Joo-won could be set free without much trouble. Jeongmyeong in prison was waiting and hoping Hong Joo-won would come back to rescue her.
