On the 2nd episode of KBS 2TV's Wednesday & Thursday drama, "The Merchant: Gaekju 2015", the head of Cheon Family Inn, Gil Sang-moon (Lee Won-jong) fell for the crafty trick set up by the head of usurer center, Kim Hak-joon (Kim Hak-cheol) and had to make a false confession for something he had not done.

Because Gil Sang-moon could not let Kim Hak-joon take over the Cheon Family Inn, he chose to transport opium unwillingly. However he was caught by Qing soldiers and became to be tortured.

While he was being tortured, Gil Sang-moon found out everything that had happened was because of Kim Hak-joon's plan. Kim Hak-joon said he wanted the Cheon Family Inn and the life of Cheon Bong-sam's father, who is the owner of the Cheon Family Inn. Kim Hak-joon forced Gil Sang-moon to point Cheon Oh-soo as an opium smuggler, which was not true.

However, Gil Sang-moon kept his loyalty and said he was solely responsible for the transportation of opium. As Gil Sang-moon made the false confession, he ended up taking poison to death.
