The free mixtape album released under the name August D topped iTunes' album charts in 80 countries on May 23, just a day after its release, and ranked seventh on the U.K'.s Official Albums Chart on May 29.

It is very unusual for a mixtape to make the top 10. The Official Charts said Suga is "the first ever solo Korean artist to land a U.K. Top 10 album".

The title track "Daechwita" is sampled from actual Daechwita, a genre of traditional Korean military music played with wind and percussion instruments generally while marching, and fused with hip-hop.

Suga said he wrote the song while taking a one-month vacation recently.

The music video for the song, apparently inspired by the historical film "Masquerade", is also drawing much attention, garnering over 63 million views on YouTube as of Monday.

"I could afford the time to make the music video because our world tour was canceled due to the coronavirus epidemic", he said.
