Sumi Jo Wins Italian Honor

Korean soprano Sumi Jo was awarded an order of merit and named a cavaliere by the Italian government on Monday for her contribution to musical exchanges between Korea and Italy.

Jo received an Order of the Star of Italy, which is the second highest civilian honor granted to Italians abroad or foreigners, and the title of cavaliere at the Italian Embassy in Seoul by Italian Ambassador Federico Failla.

Jo has been based in Rome for a long time, having graduated from the Accademia di Santa Cecilia there, and has had a prolific career as one of the world's top opera singers.
