Survey: Hallyu Fans Mostly Interested in K-pop

A new survey finds that foreigners are most interested in Korean pop music, or K-pop, when it comes to 'hallyu', or "Korean Wave".

The survey was conducted by the Korea Tourism Organization on some 12-thousand people from 102 countries who are members of the tourism agency's Web site.

According to the survey, 53 percent picked K-pop as their key interest in hallyu. Thirty-three percent of respondents selected Korean TV dramas and six-point-two percent picked Korean films as their top interests.

When asked which favorite hallyu star they would like to travel with in South Korea, 13 percent chose the boy band Super Junior, eight-point-six percent picked the group Big Bang, and six-point-seven percent selected the boy band JYJ.

The survey found that Super Junior was the K-pop favorite in English and Chinese-speaking countries, while Big Bang enjoyed strong popularity in French and Spanish-speaking countries.

In Japan, actor Bae Yong-joon was selected as the number one hallyu star. Unlike other hallyu fans around the globe, Japanese fans had more interest in Korean TV dramas than K-pop.
