According to Lee's agency on Thursday, she will attend an award ceremony in May next year.

The foundation was established in 1997 by the parents of a boy who died of cancer at the age of 10. It selects the recipients among recommended candidates from around the world.

The Taiwanese woman was seven months pregnant at the time and ended up giving birth prematurely. The baby weighed just 1 kg and had to have surgery. Since the woman was not eligible for state medical coverage here, the hospital fee amounted to a staggering W80 million.

When she learned about the woman's ordeal, Lee not only visited the mother in hospital but picked up the tab.

Lee was also given a plaque of appreciation by the Taiwanese government.
