Thai Tourists expected to surge because of 'A Jewel in the Palace'

Thanks to the soaring popularity of the Korean TV drama "A Jewel in the Palace" ("Dae Jang Geum") in Thailand, the number of Thai tourists visiting Koreawill greatly increase, Thailand's travel industry expects.

According to the Thailandpress report on Feb. 25, Anake Srichevachart, president of Thai Travel Agents Associations (TTAA) said that since the broadcast of "A Jewel in the Palace" on Thai Air TV Channel 3 since last October, Koreahas become one of the hottest destinations for Thai tourists.

Thanks to the success of "A Jewel in the Palace" ("Dae Jang Geum"), Thai travel agents are currently selling Korean tour packages more easily than they do with Japanor EU tour packages, added Mr. Srichevachart.

He also mentioned that there are many natural sightseeing spots in Koreathat attract tourists.

According to the Bangkokoffice (director of office, Jeon, Hyo-sik) of the Korea National Tourism Corporation (KNTC), it is expected that because of the continuing influence of the so-called Korean Syndrome, the number of Thai tourists visiting Koreasurpassed 100,000 last year and such a number will become even greater this year.
