"The Host" US DVD in for the Full Treatment

Magnolia studio calls Bong Joon-ho a "critically acclaimed visionary director" and "The Host" "the talk of the 2006 Cannes International Film Festival". Magnolia lives up to its praise of the film with multiple DVD, HD and Blue Ray editions full of special features for the North American (region 1) market.

The special features of the region 1 editions include a commentary track in English by BONG himself. Other extras give an insight to various stages of the films development and how BONG inventively shaped the film. The special features also help non-Koreans understand the film in relation to the Korean society and politics, to which "The Host" has many allusions.

The quality treatment of the North American DVD of "The Host" makes clear the high expectations of Magnolia. "The Host" has been praised by critics world-wide; garnered lots of excitement at film festivals, including festivals in North America; and the US theatrical release was also successful.

Korean films that are released in the West are often very bare with only the film itself and perhaps the poster and/or a trailer. International fans work around it by ordering the original Korean DVD from Internet stores, but Korean DVDs have only foreign subtitles for the feature film and rarely for the extras.
