Korean Rookie Director Park Jung-bum's "The Journals of Musan" was awarded the Jury Prize at the 13th Deauville Asian Film Festival on March 13 in France. "The Journals of Musan" is the story of a North Korean defector's struggle to make a living in South Korea. Park wrote, directed, and acted in the film, which is his debut. "The Journals of Musan" won both the New Currents Award and the FIRPRESCI Award at Busan International Film Festival in 2010, and the Tiger Award at the 40th Rotterdam International Film Festival in February.

Deauville had established itself as a champion of American cinema when Professor Alain Patel launched his idea of embracing Asian cinema in the same way. The first festival took place in 1999 as a showcase for the diversity and variety of cinematic production throughout Asia.
