The pride and joy of the region made into animation

2009/02/17 | Permalink | Source

Excellent cultural contents such as traditional stories, heroes, craftwork, festivals and costumes representing the region are being reborn as animation. This project is focused on regions besides Seoul. The legends handed down by oral storytelling, special characters and noted sights of the region will be made into animation content by animation artists and introduced both on-line and off-line. Popular works, in particular, will be translated into foreign languages and distributed internationally.

KOCCA is conducting the local cultural contents excavation and marketing support administration to support the animation production and distribution of local cultural contents. This project, which was arranged to provide vitality to local cultural contents, will be based on the cooperation between animation artists, local cultural industry promotion establishments and the local government body.

A total of 10 projects will be selected with up to 20 episodes, which is the maximum number of publications in book form, which will appear in a series on the Naver portal site webtoon. According to the number of page views, a manuscript fee of 2.5 million per comic up to a total of 50 million won will be paid. Considering the average manuscript fee of webtoon artists, the fee is at the highest level of the industry. When the series is completed, the comics will be published into book form and will be introduced in character fairs and at the International Culture & Contents Fair. Among the most popular works, five will be selected, and with the support of translations and publication expenses, they will be made into international promotional pamphlets.

Through the marketing activities in all areas of cultural contents, the project aims to build the foundation for excellent content that is worthy of support and promotion in the domestic and international market. Final works will be selected by the judging committee consisting of animation artists, marketing specialists, lawyers and local specialists.

Team leader Yangjin Kim of the Local Cultural Industry Team announced, "For the region, the establishment provides an opportunity to promote its culture, while for animation artists, it give them a change to excavate new creative material. With the serialization on webtoon , publication in book form and participation in various exhibitions, we expect a great promotional effect for both the individual artists and the establishment"

The application period is until March 24. The application form is to be filled out on the home page and sent via mail or submitted directly.
