"The Unforgiven" invited to Berlinale

2005/11/10 Source

"The Unforgiven" directed by Yoon Jong-bin has been invited to abroad film festivals one after the other. It is called as "The best discovery of this year in Korean movie circles", which will be in release on Nov 18 at home.

The film won PSB Awards, FIPRESCI Award (Prize of the International Film Critics), New Current special mention and Net Pack Award in October at Pusan International Film Festival 2005, It was recognized as the best film of 10th PIFF. Who lavished praise on this work is not only the festival organizer but also audience in Busan.

Lots of foreign press crowded into 10th PIFF and they all were interested in Director Yoon and his film.

During the festival, the main press centered not on star directors, but on a unwell-known director. Yoon had plenty of interview requests.

The foreign prominent movie magazines applaused to this film. With its sharp and deliberate view about the root of ther patriarchal culture and the maculine myth Yoon criticized the current problem of Korean society. Before this work, the foreign presses have seen Korea only with its division and two Korea's relation, so it was a fresh shock to them.

The chiefs of executive committee and programmers showed the strong interest in Yoon's film before it was awarded at PIFF.

Followed by PIFF, "The Unforgiven" caught on splendidly with the audiences in American Film Market in which Sundance Film Festival and Berlinale programmers invited to their film festivals.

The Korean movie world is delighted that young director appeared, who is more expected in the future. This is not only reward of Koreans, and the film is anticipated to gain a good result in Sundance and Berlin as an important director who get a recognition and sympathy abroad.
