There is a large-scale picture projected on the stage.
Suddenly, people jump out of the picture.
It seems as if the performance is a slide show of different genre paintings, but there is more to it.
Kim Hong-do [김홍도] is one of Korea's most famous painters.
He showed great artistic skills from a young age, drawing everything from living beings to landscapes.
And his pictures come to life on this stage.

[Interview : Lim Sang-u, Planning director National Theater of Korea] "The theme for this year's World Festival of National Theaters is "Let's meet masters from up to 400 years ago". Kim Hong-do is a master who is hailed as the greatest artist in Korean history. To commemorate him, currently living master artists put this musical together. We feel that this musical deserves to be the closing show".

"Kim Hong-do the Wizard of Art" takes place 50 years after Kim Hong-do's death.
The musical features Kim Dong-ji, a fan of Kim Hong-do's artwork in his 50s, and Son Su-jae, Kim Dong-ji's friend.
I heard that you began to collect Kim Hong-do's works after selling an expensive piece of art. Is it true

[Interview : Park Chul-ho-I, Actor] "This character always buys works by Kim Hong-do with whatever money he has. He lends a piece of artwork to his close friend Son Su-jae, but the picture didn't come back after one or two months. He heads to Su-jae's house only to realize that Su-jae wasn't there and one piece was left, named "Chuseong Budo". The character gets sucked into the painting, where he tries to find his friend Su-jae. Meanwhile, Su-jae is searching for an old love".

Stage techniques seem to blend reality and fantasy together.

[Interview : Park Chul-ho-I, Actor] "We incorporate animations into our musical, and actors can walk into it. It's like a cartoon featuring real-life people. It's amazing to see someone jump out of the animation to dance in real life".

The characters are witty and full of life. They bring the stories behind many of Kim Hong-do's works to life.

[Interview : Park Chul-ho-I, Actor] "I feel that this is a perfect mixture of poignant feelings and humor. I also feel that this musical is worth being the closing show for the festival".

The musical "Kim Hongdo, the Wizard of Art" is a magical combination of staple Korean masterpieces, fantastic videos, and traditional music and dance.
