A pleasant surprise was , directed by Lee Chang-dong, which took home Best Screenplay from the Cannes Festival.

tells the story of a 60 something woman who rediscovers the world through poetry. Actress Yun Jeong-hui moved hearts young and old through her talents, bringing home awards for Korea from other festivals as well, including the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.

[Interview : ] "I thought that it was finally happening, that the award was really deserved. I was happy to see that Korea's stature was that much improved on the world stage".

[Interview : ] "As a Korean, I'm very happy. I hope we continue this process of development".

The movie "Ha Ha Ha" by director Hong Sang-soo, was also given the prize "Un Certain Regard", or a certain glance, at the 63rd Cannes festival, and his earned acclaim at the Venice International Film Festival, turning the world's spotlight on Korea.

[Interview : Darcy Paquet, Movie Columnist] "It was a very good year for Korean films at Cannes. Many of these films were received very well, and I think that it showed the diversity of Korean cinema. They had a number of different styles of film that were all very well-received".

The outlook is promising for Korean movies in 2011, with and already recording over 500,000 viewers, and more strong movies awaiting release.

[Interview : ] "I'm the oldest in my family, so I want to see movies that I could see with my younger siblings".

[Interview : ] "I could do with less violent movies, and more melodramas or detective movies".

[Interview : ] "I hope that there will be more movies that provide a lot of food for thought".
